You will pass the gothic Small and Great Guild Houses erected in the 1850-60's, as well as the Dome Cathedral built in 1211 which is the seat of the Archbishop of Riga. See the Stock Exchange building in the style of a Venetian renaissance palazzo symbolising wealth and plenitude, followed by the famous Blackheads House, used from the 15th century as a guild for unmarried merchants, ship owners and foreigners in Riga. Continue to St. Peter's Church, Latvian National Opera House, the serene canal that once protected the city from invasion and end the tour at the solemn Freedom Monument.
In the afternoon, you can visit the Riga Motor Museum on an optional tour if you love old cars, as it is the biggest antique vehicle museum in the Baltics. It also features modern design, multimedia solutions and hands-on exhibits.

DAY 6 Vilnius
Your day begins with a morning Old Town walking tour with your local guide. Vilnius has more than 1,200 medieval buildings and 48 churches, being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. Admire the stately Vilnius Cathedral (housing many crypts and catacombs), the Lower and Upper Castle of Gediminas Tower (the symbol of the city), St. Anne's Church (a 16th century masterpiece of Gothic architecture) and the Vilnius University (one of the oldest in the world, founded in 1569). Continue onto Pilies Street with lots of elegant houses and gift shops, and the Gates of Dawn (a.k.a. Sharp Gate), a major pilgrimage site with a holy image of Virgin Mary that is said to have miraculous powers. Finally, see the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, discerned as one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in the world, is the centrepiece of a former monastery complex of the Canons Regular of the Lateran.
The balance of the day is at your disposal, and high on the list is an optional excursion to the eminent Trakai Castle, located on an island on Lake Galve, one of the deepest lakes in Lithuania. In ancient times, it was called the 'Town on Water' and the view of the historic structure is candidly straight out of a fairy tale. Built in the 14th century, the castle served as a residence for the Grand Dukes of Lithuania but now it is a part of the Trakai History Museum so you can go inside to see the exhibitions, various archaeological findings and artefacts, and a collection of art.
Another not-to-miss optional activity is to take an evening hot air balloon flight over in a shared group. Vilnius is one of the few capitals where you can still enjoy a balloon flight over the cityscape, hence you can always spot hot air balloons dotting the sky, especially in the warmer months. It is definitely a stunning life-time experience to remember!
