Immerse yourself in the calling of Transylvania as you travel from Bucharest through beautiful countryside and landscape to medieval towns, impressive castles, traditional villages, churches and fortresses. Along the way, you will taste local cuisine, partake in fun activities, stay in unique accommodation and learn about the history, culture and lifestyles of the people in this region.
DAY 1 Bucharest - Brasov
Welcome to Bucharest! Upon arrival, you will be met at the airport/railway station/port and commence your Medieval Transylvania tour. Alternatively, if you are in Bucharest already, you will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 09.30 hrs. The tour proceeds to Brasov and depending on the course of the day, visits Peles Castle - the former royal residence of the Romanian Kings - built between 1873-1914 and inaugurated in 1883. Check into your hotel and the rest of the day is at leisure. You may either explore around or relax after a day of travelling.

DAY 2 Brasov
After breakfast, visit the most famous and well-preserved castle in Romania, the Bran Castle. Also known as Dracula's Castle, it was built in the 14th century to protect the Transylvanian borders. Next, tour the UNESCO-listed Prejmer Fortified Church which was founded by the Germanic Teutonic Knights and then eventually taken over by the Transylvanian Saxon community. In the afternoon, enjoy a walking tour of the medieval center of Brasov, one of the oldest in Europe dating from 1235, surrounded by high stone walls, bulwarks, towers, and other small fortresses. See the Council Square, Black Church, White and Black Towers, Weaver's Bastion, and Ecaterina's Gate.

DAY 3 Brasov - Sibiu
In the morning, drive to Sibiu, one of the oldest and biggest medieval towns in Transylvania and former capital of this region. Passing several mountain villages at the foot of the Carpathians Mountains, stop to see some old crafts including a water mill built in 1873 and a workshop that makes fabric, clothes, or carpets for more than 100 years. On arrival, check into your hotel and go on a walking tour of the Sibiu Old District. Nicknamed 'The Town with Eyes', Sibiu was founded in 1190 with lots of Germanic architecture, which you'll see the Big Square, the Small Square, the Staircase Tower, the Lier's Bridge, Evangelical, Catholic and Orthodox Cathedrals, medieval wall and fortifications.

DAY 4 Sibiu - Hunedoara - Alba Iulia - Sibiu
Today, continue to Hunedoara to visit the biggest medieval castle in Romania, Corvins' Castle, dating since the 15th century. Next, head to Alba Iulia, once the site of an ancient Roman city and later declared the Capital of the Great Union of Romania, and see the Orthodox Cathedral, Catholic Cathedral, the fortification system built in 'Vauban' style and ancient ruins. In the afternoon, stop at Sibiel, encased in natural beauty, well-preserved architecture, and local traditions, and get a feel for how its 450-or-so-inhabitants live, sheltered in a cauldron at the foot of the Cibin Mountains. Enjoy a horse-driven wagon tour in the old village and a home-made dinner with traditional products.

DAY 5 Sibiu - Biertan - Sighisoara - Rupea - Viscri
Depart for Biertan Village, an important trade centre in the Middle Age and visit its UNESCO-listed fortified church, built in the 15th-16th century, which was the headquarter of the Evangelical Bishops for about 300 years. Continue to Sighisoara, 'the Pearl of Transylvania' whose Renaissance styled buildings, medieval walls, towers, colourful houses, and narrow streets make up the charm of this place, particularly Church on the Hill and the Clock Tower. Subsequently, be impressed by the peasant fortress in Rupea before ending the day in Viscri, one of the most famous and endearing villages in Romania, economically boosted with the help and visits of Prince Charles of Wales.

DAY 6 Viscri - Saschiz
Begin the day with a walk in the village where people are trying to preserve their traditions and way of life. Visit the fortified church, local ethnographic museum and the former Prince of Wales Guesthouse which has transformed into a cultural centre. If you want to be hands-on, take part while watching a blacksmith work his magic, followed by his wife producing felted house shoes. They are a member of the local Gypsy community so the guide will tell you more about their history and customs. Go for a ham, chutney and syrup tasting in Saschiz village and the afternoon is at leisure to either spend in Viscri, explore other nearby villages or go see Racos Turquoise Lake and basaltic columns.

DAY 7 Viscri - Bucharest
Leave the region of Transylvania on the route back to Bucharest, crossing the Carpathian Mountains again. At Sinaia, visit the magnificent Neo-Renaissance Peles Castle if you did not get to on Day 1. Around 16:00 hrs, arrive at the majestic capital for a panoramic tour with highlights including Parliament Palace, Revolution Square, Athenaeum, Royal Palace, Triumph Arch, Victoriei Avenue and so on. The evening is at leisure so you can explore this city more on your own, especially when it's lit up at night, and soak up the cosmopolitan atmosphere. Find a bar or a restaurant to sit at and savour Romanian cuisine like pickled cabbage roll, stuffed peppers, sour meatballs soup and fried liver.

DAY 8 Bucharest
Following breakfast, bid farewell to your Tour Manager as your Medieval Transylvania tour concludes with a departure transfer to the airport/railway station/port for your onward journey.
