Day 1 Auckland - Hokianga Harbour
After meeting your fellow travellers in Auckland your adventure begins with a stroll to the gannet colony above Muriwai Beach on the West Coast. Visit the Kauri Museum at Matakohe and in Waipoua Forest, accompanied by your local guide, see the greatest kauri of all, Tane Mahuta, Lord of the Forest. Relax at your beachside accommodation and enjoy the stunning views over the Hokianga Harbour. B

Day 2 Hokianga Harbour - Bay of Island
Cruise across the harbour to the magnificent golden sand dunes, the perfect place to try sandboarding or walk along the deserted beach. Then cross to the East Coast to visit Kerikeri’s historic Stone Store and Waitangi where Maori signed the Treaty with Queen Victoria’s representatives in 1840. B

Day 3 Bay of Islands
Today take a relaxed cruise to Cape Brett and the famous "Hole in the Rock". Come ashore at Russell the very first capital of New Zealand, a small town with a rollicking 19th century past. Later return by ferry to Paihia and Waitangi. B

Day 4 Bay of Islands - Auckland
Your first port of call are the Kawiti Glow-worm Caves. The caves are named after the famous Maori chief of the area Kawiti and still belong to his family. His great grandson Te Tawai Kawiti showed the first visitors through the caves in the 1950s. This afternoon head back to Auckland. B

Day 5 Auckland - Rotorua
From Auckland your tour continues to Rotorua. Your first stop is Karangahake Gorge, enjoy a stroll through native bush and relics of early goldmines. Visit a working Kiwifruit orchard too hear all about this famous fruit. Join a private cruise on a 53ft catamaran on Lake Rotoitin calling into secluded bays and hot pools reached only by water. B

Day 6 Rotorua
Enjoy a leisurely start this morning, perhaps stroll down to the lakeside, or join one of many optional tours. Afterwards head to the famous Lake Tarawera for a hosted lunch. B, L

Day 7 Rotorua - Tongariro National Park
Visit to the surreal, geothermal reserve of Wai-O-Tapu. The bubbling mud pools and incredibly colourful silica terraces are unforgettable. Stop at thundering Huka Falls and Lake Taupo and stay the night in the World Heritage Tongariro National Park. This evening Relax at your Hotel or walk the gentle trail to Taranaki Falls to enjoy the alpine views. B

Day 8 Tongariro National Park - Wellington
After a relaxed breakfast at your hotel drive up the mountain road to the Top of the Bruce to enjoy panoramic views over the volcanic plateau. Drive around the slopes of Mt Ruapehu before you make your way down the centre of the island to our capital Wellington. Head up Mt Victoria for the stunning views over the harbour before getting settled for the night. B

Day 9 Wellington
The day is yours to enjoy at leisure, take a short walk to the waterfront and Te Papa National Museum. Wellington is the food lovers' capital of New Zealand with a huge selection of cafes and boutique breweries to choose from. Wellington is also the spiritual home of "The Lord of the Rings" where you can visit Weta Workshop and see how all the props are made. B

Day 10 Wellington - Nelson
We cruise across Cook Strait on the Interislander ferry and up stunning Queen Charlotte Sound to Picton to step ashore on the South Island. At Forrest Estate Wines join a tasting and lunch in this premier wine region before continuing to Nelson. B, L

Day 11 Nelson - Abel Tasman National Park - Nelson
At Kaiteriteri Beach meet your local guide and cruise by catamaran and walk along the stunning Abel Tasman coastline of islands, sheltered bays, estuaries and golden, sandy beaches. There’s time to relax on the beach with a picnic lunch and take a swim before returning to Nelson. B, L

Day 12 Nelson - Kaikoura
Heading towards Kaikoura the road hugs the rugged coastline between the Pacific Ocean and the Kaikoura Ranges and the views are truly spectacular. Your afternoon is free to explore Kaikoura’s bountiful marine wildlife. One of the many highlights is viewing the seal colony with a backdrop of the Kaikoura mountains and coastline. There are many optional excursions including whale watching cruises and flights. For those keen on an easy walk the Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway offers a chance to explore the headland and enjoy the Pacific Ocean views with some interesting Maori history along the way. B

Day 13 Kaikoura - Aoraki / Mt Cook
Leaving the coast drive over the Hunderlee Hills to the Canterbury Plains. Stop for a special lunch at Akaunui, a 100-year-old homestead surrounded by large gardens and dine on wonderful fresh produce. After lunch continue through Burke's Pass to the spectacular Mackenzie Country for sweeping vistas of tussock lands and the Southern Alps. Make plenty of stops en route, see the Church of the Good Shepherd at Lake Tekapo and the unreal turquoise blue of glacier fed Lake Pukaki. B, L

Day 14 Aoraki / Mt Cook - Queenstown
Your morning is free to explore the magnificent landscape crowned by Aoraki/Mt Cook, New Zealand’s highest mountain, on an easy walking track from the village or treat yourself to a scenic flight or cruise on a glacial lake. Later drive over the golden tussock lands of the Lindis Pass Queenstown your home for three nights. B

Day 15 Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown
Today is all about the one and only Milford Sound. From Queenstown follow the shores of the great southern lakes Wakatipu and Te Anau before heading into the heart of Fiordland National Park on the spectacular Milford Road. On arrival at Milford cruise by launch out onto the sound dominated by iconic Mitre Peak and home to birdlife, seal colonies and pods of dolphins. A magical flight over the Southern Alps returns you to Queenstown at the end of a fantastic day of touring by land, sea and air. B

Day 17 Queenstown - Wanaka

Day 18 Wanaka - Franz Josef Glacier
Stat your day of by following the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea before reaching the pristine Haast Pass in Mt Aspiring National Park has well-maintained short tracks leading to cascading waterfalls and clear blue pools. Discover the beauty of Westland Tai Poutini World Heritage Park’s wild West Coast beaches and lush, primeval rainforest and stop at Fox Glacier and Lake Matheson before you reach Franz Josef. B

Day 19 Franz Josef Glacier - Punakaiki
The morning is free to walk to Franz Josef Glacier lookout or take an optional helihike or cruise out on Okarito lagoon in search of the rare Kotuku, White Heron. In Hokitika, the home of Pounamu (greenstone), meet the carvers of this treasured stone. B

Day 20 Punakaiki / Paparoa National Park
Today visit the Paparoa National Park, enjoy plenty of time to discover the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes, limestone stacks weathered by the sea. Paparoa Park has towering limestone cliffs and karst rock formations with river valleys draped in subtropical forest. Walk to an isolated beach or the seal colony at Cape Foulwind. A favourite option is the glow worm cave at Charleston. B

Day 21 Punakaiki - Christchurch
Leaving the West Coast head eastwards to Christchurch through the alpine beech forests of Arthur’s Pass National Park. The dramatic landscapes make a fitting finale to your adventure. B
